Steam sign a new peak at 8 million users connected

7 months after the passage of seven million, a new record Steam users connected simultaneously with 8 million.
Did you know: the popularity of Steam continues to grow. Probably. But did you also know that development is accelerating? In January 2013, the record of users connected simultaneously to the platform from Valve was 6,000,000. In December of the same year (12 months later), this number increased to 7,000,000. Noon yesterday, Sunday, June 29, only 7 months after the previous step, the number of 8 million was reached.
Necessarily impossible not to see here a large boost summer sales, which is also the last day. You have until 19h to get here and enjoy the discounts offered on many titles. The last day includes as usual the most interesting offers.
Balances thank you, thank you Dota 2
But this new record is also possible thanks to some games whose popularity is too rosy. The majority of the most played games in the balances (Dota 2 ahead, followed by Counter Strike. Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, Civilization V ... etc) are the same as those at issue in the study Ars Technica we took turns in April and revealed that 37% of games purchased were never launched.
Percentage is likely to increase in the future as the number of games available on Steam is growing and their prices often start falling. This last point is particularly due to the early access program that allows (for better or for worse) to get their hands on a game yet in beta state at a reduced price.
